Lean and Green Award

Logistics service provider Wim Bosman Belgium is one of the leading companies that received the Lean and Green Award. On January 30, 2013 the award was given to companies that are pioneers in the field of sustainable logistics. Flemish Minister-President Kris Peeters presented the award during the new year reception of the Flanders Institute for Logistics (VIL).

Lean and Green programme VIL

The VIL is an independent institute that helps Flemish companies to realize innovative logistics projects. The Lean and Green programme of the VIL wants to deliver a specific and pragmatic contribution to the sustainability of the supply chain. Wim Bosman Belgium is one of the frontrunners in this programme. The programme was started in the Netherlands in 2007 under the supervision of Connekt. Wim Bosman the Netherlands already won the Lean and Green Award and Star. When the Flemish Institute and Connekt signed a licensing agreement for the roll out of the programme in Belgium, Wim Bosman decided to do everything possible to achieve the Award.

Sustainable logistics

Improving business processes and sustainability go hand in hand. "Within Wim Bosman sustainable logistics has been a focus for many years. An environmental efficientfleet, reduction of empty miles and the continuous training of our drivers have been implemented already”, says Managing Director Rudi Debras. "Sustainable logistics moves beyond our business. Especially in cooperation with external partners in different lines of business, many advantages can be made in the entire supply chain. Eventually, together we must come to fully integrated sustainable solutions. Beyond different lines of businesses, beyond the clustering of flows of goods. That is the challenge we face".

The programme supports fifteen ‘frontrunners’. These are logistics service providers and cross-dockers that agreed to improve the energy efficiency of their transport and logistics activities and to reduce CO2 emissions by at least 20% in a period of five years. In addition, all winners have formulated SMART (Specific Measurable Acceptable Realistic and Time specific) goals and described the measurements they will take in their company to achieve these objectives.
