Road toll collection in Belgium, as of 1 April 2016

As of 1 April 2016 the Belgian government is applying a new regulation with regard to a road toll for freight traffic. This toll has direct consequences for import and export to and from Belgium, as well as for the pass-through traffic with destinations outside of Belgium. Trucks, with a maximum permitted tare weight of more than 3.5 tonnes will have to pay a road toll as of that date. This is applicable to the motorways, and to a number of regional and communal roads.

What does this mean for our customers?

The measures taken by the Belgian government have consequences for our customers. Toll expenditures are an integral part of the costs, which are made by us for transporting shipments in and through Belgium. We therefore feel compelled to pass this increase in costs on to our customers, as of 1 April 2016. Attached you will find a rate overview, on which you can see what surcharge Wim Bosman will pass on for this toll.

New surcharge toll Belgium

Wim Bosman has opted to divide Belgium into 4 zones, each with its own surcharge for transports. In ascending order, zone 1 consists of the area that borders on the Netherlands (including Antwerp), while zone 4 refers to those areas that lie the furthest away from the Netherlands.

Also shipments to and from France, Spain, Portugal and Great Britain (groupage) will be faced by this new surcharge, if they pass through Belgium. No surcharge will be calculated for partial and for full-load shipments to and from Great Britain, because these shipments usually depart from or arrive in the Netherlands by ferry, as do shipments to and from Ireland. The same goes for shipments to and from Luxembourg. These shipments are often transported via Germany.
