Adjustment of German toll fees

Adjustment of German toll fees

The German government has decided to amend the legislation on toll fees (Maut) that apply to German freight traffic.

  • As of 1 July 2015, approximately 1100 km of provincial or local roads were added to the road network in Germany that is subject to tolls, amounting to a total of 15,000 km.
  • As of 1 October 2015, the tolls must be paid for trucks with a loading capacity larger than 7.5 tons. This is currently still 12 tons of loading capacity.

The latter adjustment in particular has a great impact on existing toll fees because a significant number of extra vehicles have now become liable to pay tolls. Tolls are an integral part of the costs that we must incur in order to deliver your shipments to your customers in Germany. We are therefore obliged to charge this increase in costs on as of 1 October 2015.

The maut costs for groupage shipments (to 3500 kg) have been increased. The cost increase for partial and complete loads is minimal because these shipments are usually carried out by trucks that are subject to tolls. We have therefore decided not to increase these maut fees.
